THE ART ACADEMY WITHOUT WALLS began in 1996, a joint co-operation between The Visual Arts Council of Zambia and The National Academy of Fine Art in Oslo. Its aim is to build a fine art academy in Lusaka- one suited to the cultural and financial landscape of Zambia. There are six main components employed in this process......

...... an annual series of workshop / seminars in order to teach technical skills, to introduce current and historical art practice and not least to establish a discussion platform on Zambian Art's participation in international contemporary art discourse.
...... the establishing of permanent technical facilities such as video / sound editing - analogue / digital photo - sculpture - silkscreen.
...... a series of six-month fellowships in Europe in order to train the personnel to use and maintain these technical facilities.

...... a group of elite artist being academically trained who will eventually take over the teaching responsibility in the future Academy.
Currently there are four B.A. graduates from Oslo - one M.A. and two Rijksakademie participants
.
...... a series of female - female annual fellowships in Oslo and Lusaka aiming to introduce specific contextual themes within both the national and international arenas.
